Born in Calcutta, India, in 1963, Manjari Chakravarti spent her formative years travelling around India, before pursuing a Bachelors and Masters in Fine Arts at Shantiniketan. Manjari works with personal and women centered social histories, transforming found often recycled materials into narratives. Researching and journaling case histories into books, boxes and shrine like papier mache installations, lit within, layered with text. She draws upon indigenous art sources, kitsch and the written word. Manjari has had seven solo shows to her credit, in Kolkata, Delhi and France. She has participated in shows at the Galerie Neumeister in Munich, the Indian Embassy in Berlin, International Art Summit on Women’s Issues in Kathmandu, India Art Summit in Delhi; Emerging India-Royal College of Art, London, and at the – Khoj International Artists’ Workshop in New Delhi. Manjari lives and works in Shantiniketan, India.
