Beyond Objecthood: a probe beyond the apparent

Gandhara Art Gallery organizes its latest show, ‘Beyond Objethood’ at the Nandalal Bose Gallery, ICCR, Ho Chi Minh Sarani. Conceptualized by Sudipta Sen and Oindrilla Maity Surai, the exhibition showcases fifteen participating artists from all across the country, namely Adip Dutta, Anjum Singh, Anupam Chakraborty, Bose Krishnamachari, Jayashree Chakravorty, Harshavardhan Swaminathan Manjari Chakravarti, Manisha Parekh, Saba Hasan, Samir Aich among others. The exhibition addresses the diversified practices and various nuances of abstract art in the context of India and how artists develop their pieces as they address the notion of objecthood. It is also an attempt to document the artists’ processes of working with quite an amount of preparatory drawings, rough drafts, snippets of their sources of inspiration. The show marks a fresh approach and opens up further possibilities in terms of a curatorial enterprise.
